Blues News From Portsmouth Septemb / October 2004

Welcome to another news letter. As usual it's too long since I wrote
the last one, I'll try and keep these updates a little more regular
in future but no promises!

*Some news about last weekends gigs*

Firstly, thanks to Henry Allen for setting me up with a booking
at the Rising Sun in Basingstoke last Friday (24th Sept.). It
turned out to be an excellent evening, particularly well attended
by an enthusiastic and blues orientated audience. Also I made /
remade a couple of useful contacts, meeting up with Rex from the
Basingstoke Blues Club. As a result of our conversation I will be
opening for Danny Bryant's Redeye Band at the Basingstoke Blues
Club on Saturday 7th November. Should be an interesting contrast
of styles. See my giglist for a link to their website.

Secondly, thanks again to Simon Tufnail (from "Burnt Ice") for
stepping for Tim on Bass on Saturday when "The Continentals"
played at the R.M.A., Southsea. Another well attended gig (two in
one weekend, it's enough to make you feel optimistic :-)) we
played a powerful if slightly chaotic set to much appreciation.
Hopefully both "The Continentals" and "Burnt Ice" will be back
there soon (with the right bass players in the right band this
    time :-)).

*Up Coming Gigs*

Here are some details about the gigs coming up over the next 6
    weeks or so.

Every Tuesday @ The Kitsch N d'Or
Phil Jones & Andy Broad
Jazz Guitars

As usual Phil and I will be playing our usual blend of blues,
latin and bebop inspired jazz guitar, every Tuesday with
exception of the middle two weeks in October when I'm taking a
short break for my Honeymoon! Phil is planning some special guest
nights to fill in the gaps so don't stay away!

Wednesday 29 September 2004
Cafe Parisien, Southsea, Beneath the LSI Building, Lord Montgomery Way
Phil Jones & Andy Broad
Jazz Guitars

A nice way to finish the months gigs with a return booking to
this nice cafe bar / bistro. The first booking earlier in the
month went down very well and we're hoping for more of the same!
    Music from about 8.00pm

Friday 1st October 2004
Red White & Blue, Fawcett Road, Southsea.
Andy Broad
Acoustic and Electric Urban Blues.

First of two local solo gigs this month. I'm looking forward to
playing my full blown solo act at a nice venue without having to
drive 50 to 70 miles first! Come down and support this one if you
can as it definitely a venue with some potential!

Saturday 2nd October 2004
The Elms, Elm Grove Southsea
Andy Broad
Acoustic & Electric Urban Blues.

Another new venue for me, in fact another relatively new venue
for Portsmouth, They are putting on a whole range of music so
come down and check it out!

Saturday 9 October

Jayne and I get married! Taking a couple of weeks off!

Sunday 24th October 2004
The Steam Packet, Littlehampton
Andy Broad
Acoustic & Electric Urban Blues

Played this venue for the first time about 7 or 8 weeks ago, and
the is the first of two rebookings. It's a nice little pub on the
river a little outside the centre of town, another place where
blues fans will feel welcome, you walk in to the sounds of Jimmy
Reed on the stereo, always a good sign! Suits the solo act well!

Thursday 28th October
Private Party
The Continentals

Don't know much about this one yet (Tim handled the booking) if
your invited see you there, if your not then book us for your own
    party!

November

November opens up with a frenzy of activity, playing gigs at The
Old Market Inn Winchester, Basingstoke Blues Club and The Red
Lion Billericay and that's just in the first week! Later in the
month Ill be back at the Neptune in Hove, The Steampacket
Littlehampton, and the Anchor in Swanage, Phew!

Well this news letter is starting to make John Roberts epistles look
brief and to the point (sorry J.R. :-)), so I'll sign off now, more
news in a month or so!

Kind regards
