A VERY MERRY XMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM BARKING SPIDER!

A VERY MERRY XMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM BARKING SPIDER!

2010 has been a great year, but a lot of exciting changes are happening in 2011!

In 2010 Barking Spider’s Bullfrog Blues Club’s gigs at South Parade Pier included JON AMOR BAND, GARY FLETCHER BAND, KING KING,
LARRY MILLER BAND, PRODUCERS, RORY ELLIS, GWYN ASHTON, ROBIN BIBI BAND, IAN PARKER BAND, KELLY JOE PHELPS & CORINNE WEST, THE JUKE JOINTS and SINNERBOY.

Additional Pier gigs included BARRY “THE FISH” MELTON (of Country Joe & The Fish) with IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY, whilst the 10th SOUTHSEA FOLK & ROOTS FESTIVAL included THE PRETTY THINGS, THE MEN THEY COULDN’T HANG, SHANE MACGOWAN’S POPES and THE SHERMAN ROBERTSON BAND.

As well as our established local top artistes, guests at The R.M.A. Tavern’s “free entry” nights included American artistes P-A-U-L and CROSBY TYLER, LI'L IAN GOODSMAN from New Zealand, and from closer to home SAICCHI SUGIYAMA BAND, CREAMY, STOMPIN' DAVE ALLEN, KRIS DOLLIMORE , KINGSIZE SLIM, TINDERBOX, ROBIN BIBI, 44 PISTOL, ANDY SMYTHE TRIO, MARY JANE, SEAN TAYLOR, RON TRUEMAN BORDER, ALAN CLAYSON, CRUEL FOLK, PRESSGANG 2, MICHAEL WESTON KING and BEX MARSHALL to name but a few.

We held a handful of gigs with a small admission price in the back room of The R.M.A - STACEY EARLE & MARK STUART and also KENT DUCHAINE from the U.S.A., RON KAVANA from Ireland, and top U.K blues artiste IAN PARKER for a rare solo gig.

The Barking Spider flag was flying in Ireland Ireland , including organising and road managing tours for KELLY JOE PHELPS & CORRINNE WEST and also BARRY “The FISH” MELTON”.

I was able to attend the last three gigs of 2010 at the Pier. Or should I say the And the last gigs ever at the Pier. Conditions have been worsening month by month , so in January, after nearly 11 years at The Pier, we’ll be moving to The E.C.S.A. Club ( a.k.a. The Dockyard Club - though it‘s nowhere near the Dockyard!)

The E.C.S.A. Club is a great 150 capacity venue, with a proper stage, a well stocked bar at social club prices and… clean toilets!!!! It’s only two minutes (around 700 yards) from South Parade Pier.

The E.C.S.A. Club is in Onslow Rd, Southsea, PO5 2NH.

Using the Pier as a starting point....

Head west on South Parade, and after less than 100 yards take the first right into Clarendon Rd.

After a short while you’ll come to a roundabout.

Go straight on (Burgoyne Road is on the left, Waverley Rd on the right - there’s a night club on the corner of Waverley Road)).

After about 500 yards Onslow Rd is on the left. The E.C.S.A. Club is a few yards in on the right in Onslow Road,.

Our first night at the new venue is Thursday 13th January, when we’ll be presenting THE LARRY MILLER BAND . After that we’ll usually be on the first Thursday of the month. Check out www.barkingspider.abelgratis.com for updates

Look forward to seeing you all in 2011 - but in the mean time have a great yuletide and a happy and prosperous new year - and above all.. KEEP MUSIC LIVE and .ENJOY!
