Book NOW for SOUTHSEA FOLK ROOTS & BLUES DAY- August Bank Hliday Sunday!

SOUTHSEA FOLK ROOTS AND BLUES DSUNDAY 26th AUGUST - (BANK HOLIDAY)

Well, it’s only a few weeks until August Bank Holiday, that time of year when you’d be looking forward to SOUTHSEA FOLK & ROOTS FESTIVAL over the bank holiday weekend…This year, we’ve slimmed down and it’s going to be a one day SOUTHSEA FOLK ROOTS AND BLUES DAY on Sunday 26th August, at The N.B.E.C.S.A. Club, (a.k.a. The Dockyard Club), Onslow Rd., Southsea. And what a line up we have for you!

And what's more, on the two days before that there are also many FREE ENTRY fringe events taking place - ANDY BROAD’S BLUES JAM (all players welcome!) on Friday 24th at The Auckland Arms, ROBIN BIBI at The Auckland Arms on Saturday 25th during the afternoon, and THE SAIICHI SUGIYAMA BAND at The R.M.A. Tavern on Saturday evening.

On Sunday 26th August at THE FOLK ROOTS AND BLUES DAY itself, we have a top class line up for you, all crammed into one great day, with blues in the afternoon and folk roots in the evening.

BLUES AFTERNOON - 12 noon doors - 6 p.m
Our afternoon headliner is the excellent JON AMOR’S BLUES GROUP, led by the former vocalist and guitarist of award-winning band The Hoax. Jon joins forces with Dave Doherty (guitar), Chris Doherty (bass) and Simon Small (drums) in his latest band. Inspired by blues greats of the past like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, as well as contemporary acts like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and The Black Keys, the Jon Amor Blues Group's sound is powerful and raw. Since their debut album was released they’ve receiving critical acclaim both abroad and in the UK. The guitar playing which brought Jon to prominence with his first band during the nineties, and fresh energy of JON AMOR’S BLUES GROUP captivates audiences wherever they take to the stage.

Also appearing will be the wonderful REET PETITE & GONE. Acoustic jug band skiffle blues at it’s best! The band initially split up in the late 90’s, but reformed to become Country Joe McDonald’s backing band on his 2001 U.K tour - and then split up as soon as the tour ended! They’re now back together again with the original full four piece line up, and we’re delighted that they’ll be playing The Blues Afternoon.

Opening the festival is Portsmouth’s own king of the blues, ANDY BROAD, a name synonymous with the Portsmouth blues scene. Andy has recently returned from a successful tour of France. No Southsea blues event worth its salt would be complete without Andy’s excellent blues guitar playing and vocals.
