AYNSLEY LISTER at Bullfrog Blues Club, Thursday July 5th.

JULY 5th at The Bullfrog Blues Club- AYNSLEY LISTER!

It's fair to say that without Aynsley Lister the Bullfrog Blues Club might never have got off the ground. Barking Spider Promotions started out in March 17th, 2000 on South Parade Pier, and the first blues artiste booked was Aynsley Lister, performing one of his first ever solo gigs on 29th November 2000 .

On March 8th 2001 Barking Spider Promotions and Dave Robinson (of Reflex Records) jointly promoted The Aynsley Lister Band at The Wedgewood Rooms. The gig was a great success, and gave the Barking Spider the idea of running a regular blues club in Portsmouth. at The Wedgewood Rooms. Between March15th and May 24th , 2001 The Bullfrog Blues Club Bullfrog Blues Club was at “The Frog On The Front” at The Pyramids Centre, starting with the cream of local bands, and ending with a storming performance by the late great Ben Andrews.

After the success of the Ben Andrews gig, and logisitical difficulties at "The Frog on The Front" it was decided The Bullfrog Blues Club would move to South Parade Pier, a more suitable premises and better suited for high profile artistes. (Not any more, sadly!!!!)

The first performance by a "non local" performer was a solo gig by Aynsley Lister on July 12th. Recalling his appearance the previous year, Aynsley had been impressed with the acoustics at the Pier, and the solo gig was recorded and released on CD, entitled "Superkev & Pilchards”.

Aynsley soon became a firm favourite with Bullfrog audiences, and also with our annual Southsea Folk & Roots Festival where he appeared many times. When the Festival and The Bullfrog Blues Club moved from South Parade Pier to our current home at The Dockyard Club, The Aynsley Lister Band headlined the Blues Day at Southsea Folk & Roots Festival, in August 2011.

On July 5th - nearly 12 years on - Aynsley s back at The Bullfrog, solo ….. a gig not to be missed! (It’s J.R’s 62nd birthday the day before, so he’ll definitely be there for the gig from his home in Ireland … you have been warned…)

After live sessions for BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris and Paul Jones and performances alongside the likes of Buddy Guy, John Mayall and Robert Cray, Aynsley became the only British artist to be featured in "Classic Rock’s" Top 10 Contemporary Blues Rock Artists.

This is a great opportunity to see Aynsley "up close and personal " in a stripped down intimate setting. Expect an evening of finely crafted songs performed with a passion and conviction that will have you hooked from the very first chord.

‘Superb’ – THE TIMES
“His guitar playing is a fire hazard’ – MOJO
