South Parade Pier.....

Any of you who remember the great music we had on South Parade Pier in Southsea PLEASE read this - it looks like Fred Nash, the current owner (custodian is too good a word to waste on the odious character) is going to be compelled by the council to do urgent work on thr Pier or it will be condemned as unsafe.....

Personally, I believe he'll let it fall into the sea before he does anything about. The man is a bloody disgrace.

Between 2001 and 2001- we had some absolutely superb artistes appearing on the Pier, and the management - prior to Nash getting his grubby hands on the place - were very pro Barking Spider/Bullfrog Blues club...... Altan, Dervish, The Popes - (with and without Shane McGowan), Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Lindisfarne, The Pretty Things, Show Of Hands, Country Joe Band, Eric Bibb, The Tubes, Robin Trower, The Tubes,.... the list just goes on and on......

I first went to South Parade Pier in 1950 when I was just a few months old - my mum usd to take me down in my pram, and it was the background to my life ever since - until I stopped promoting there two years ago, having left the Pier by my own volition due to the dreadful conditions there, and total lack of support.

 I could weep..........

Thanks to Peter Chegwyn for pointing this article out to me.
