Zappa at The Cellars!

Europe's TOP Zappa interpreters are appearing at The Cellars at Eastney on Saturday 14th December. THE MUFFIN MEN, often featuring Jimmy Carl Black ("The Indian of the group" as he called himself when he was a founder member of The Mothers Of Invention) use to appear regularly at South Parade Pier, and ALWAYS went down an absolute storm. Sadly, dear old Jimmy has passed on to happy hunting grounds.....

Originally formed in 1990 to play a one-off concert to celebrate Zappa’s 50th birthday, THE MUFFIN MEN have gone on to play more than 1000 gigs around Europe and in 23 years of operation they have featured 10 different ex-Zappa/Beefheart musicians.

This year the band are stripped down to a 4 piece MUFFINZ POWER QUARTET - but still perform nothing but their own interpretations of Zappa/Beefheart material, where they have wowed audiences from the smallest stages in East German student clubs to Glastonbury World Stage,.

Don’t expect a “look-a-likey-sound-a-likey” tribute band. Expect versions of some classic songs and instrumentals, improvising solos and themes.

“OK here it is, MY favourite show of the last 12 months – THE MUFFIN MEN playing Frank Zappa, stunning musicianship, inspired improv and the ultimate version of ‘Whipping Post’ and a killer version of ‘City of Tiny Lights’… brothers and sisters it doesn’t get any better than this.”
(Pete Feenstra, promoter at The Boom Boom Club, Sutton, The Beaverwood, Chislehurst, The Bull At Barnes, & major contrubtor to Classic Rock Magazine).

Tickets are just £10 advance via http://www.thecellars.co.uk - and doors open at 7.30. p.m.

The Barking Spider will definitely be there and is hoping to meet The Barking Pumpkin (for those of you who know your Zappa....) Arf!
