SONS OF THE DELTA - - at The Bullfrog, Thursday 7th February - FULL BAND!!

We’re very excited to have of SONS OF THE DELTA - the FULL band - at The Bullfrog Blues club on Thursday 7th February. The band have headlined the blues day at The Southsea Folk & Roots Ferstival in the past. and have appeared at the Bullfrog as a duo, so we’re very much looking forward to what is bound to be a great night with this fantastic band. (The Barking Spider is coming over from Ireland for THIS one!!!!)

Sons of the Delta were formed by two of the top bluesmen in the South West U.K, Mark Cole and Rick Edwards. Mark is a powerful, passionate vocalist, who also plays a pretty mean harp, slide and rhythm guitar, whist Rick is a talented multi-style guitarist who delivers superb deep-south acoustic/electric guitar and vocals. They play a no-nonsense blend of electric and acoustic blues which includes traditional blues plus new originals. Their music also features occasional sidesteps into other American roots styles such as gospel, hillbilly, bluegrass, Cajun and Texmex.

In 2005 during a visit to Clarksdale, Mississippi, they played at a number of clubs and juke joints including Morgan Freeman's club 'Ground Zero', and recorded a CD at Jimbo Mathus's recording studio, Delta Recording. Guest musicians on the CD included legendary bluesmen Sam Carr and Pinetop Perkins. In 2006 they returned to the USA and played on the prestigious Emerging Artist stage at the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival in Helena, Arkansas.

Kent DuChaine, Alison Moyet, Dr. Feelgood, Chris Jagger (Mick's brother), Roy Wood, Steve Gibbons, Mike D'Abo, Phil Beer (Rolling Stones session man as well as folk rock hero!), The Gutter Brothers, Richard Thompson, guitar legend Alvin Lee (at the Glastonbury Festival in 1994), Stan Webb's Chickenshack, Steve Marriott and Chicago blues legend Eddie C. Campbell.

Martin Fitzgibbon and Adrian Deane complete the full four man band version of Sons Of The Delta. Ade is an accomplished all-round bass player with a deep love for the blues, and has played alongside Rick in the band Hocus Pocus Blues for many years His talent and professionalism also keep him in demand in the studio and he's the unsung bass hero behind many a well known tune. Martin Fitzgibbon was drummer with Mark in acclaimed roots-rockers the Dockery Boys, and now drums with the very popular festival band Colvin Quarmby. He's also an in-demand session musician with hundreds of recordings to his name.
